Signs It's Time To See A Chiropractor About Your Back Pain

Blog

Most people wake up with the occasional tight back or deal with a backache every once in a while after a long day or hard exercise. Mild or occasional back pain is not always a reason for concern. However, there are definitely times when back pain is a bigger deal and does warrant professional treatment. If any of the following are true of your back pain, for example, then you should make plans to see a chiropractor for care.

The pain is not responding to rest and pain relievers.

If the back pain is just some tiredness from doing something like gardening or shoveling snow, then it should fade away once you rest for a day or two and perhaps take some pain relievers. If the back pain does not respond to these measures, then you might have something more sinister going on, such as a herniated disc or misaligned vertebrae. Rather than continually hoping that just one more day of rest will do the trick, make an appointment with a chiropractor. They'll figure out what's actually going on and treat the problem at its source, bringing you relief.

You feel pins and needles sensations.

Are you feeling any tingling or any sensations that remind you of pins and needles going into your tissues? Sometimes this happens directly in the back, and other times it happens in the legs or arms. In any case, tingling sensations are a sign that your nerves are being pinched or impeded in some way. This may be caused directly by impingement on the vertebrae, or it may be caused by swollen muscles in the back pinching the nerves. In any case, this sensation is a good reason to see a chiropractor. They can adjust your spine to take pressure off the nerves and deliver relief.

You have weakness in your back or lower body.

Does your back feel not only painful but also somewhat weak? Maybe your legs or hips also feel weak. You might struggle to stand up, turn to one side, or even lift something light. This sort of weakness often means the nerves in your back are being pinched, or that you have significant muscle damage. You could injure yourself further if you don't seek treatment, so see your chiropractor sooner rather than later.

Back pain can be more than an annoyance. If your back pain is getting in the way of your daily life, see a chiropractor in your area.
